Overwhelming Success of 1st Public Lagoon Open to the Public in U.S.

10 June, 2019 / News

A year has come and gone since Crystal Lagoons® inaugurated its first 7.5-acre lagoon to the public. Located in Wesley Chapel, Central Florida, the crystalline lagoon powered by the firm’s technology has witnessed overwhelming success since day one.

In fact, this first lagoon, located in a suburban area, 40 minutes from Tampa, was built as a real estate project, and was transformed into a Public Access Lagoon (PAL), due to the fact that locals living in the have shown huge interest in its beach. This has converted the lagoon and its beach into such a popular outing for families, that the entrance to the lagoon has had to be restricted so as to control the flow of visitors.

Epperson has become a mixed-use project and, is the first lagoon to operate as a PAL in the U.S. Residents have free access, and since April of this year, limited access has been granted to external visitors.

The multinational water innovation company, Crystal Lagoons, has been strongly focused on this new model of tropical, turquoise lagoons found in public parks, shopping centers, golf courses, racetracks, amongst other locations. The main difference in this case, is that the public can access the lagoons via ticketed entry.

This new concept is expanding around the world, bringing beach lifestyle to the heart of cities and, as a consequence, PALs are changing the lives of people, regardless of their socioeconomic status. They are impressive meeting points based around water, intensely used by people of all ages, and are inclusive spaces for everyone to enjoy and socialize around.

Epperson’s success confirms this trend. In just two months, the price of entrance tickets has risen from US $10 to over US $25 per person. The success is even more surprising considering the lagoon was conceived for private use and does not include the infrastructure and attractions, such as restaurants, shops, amphitheaters and event centers usually present in Crystal Lagoons PALs.

However, it does feature a beach, swim-up bar, floating obstacle course, slides, sandbar, dock and more, all excellent options for all member of the family to enjoy beach life within walking distance of their homes.

Currently, there are 110 Crystal Lagoons projects in different stages of negotiation, planning and/or development throughout the country, across 22 states, including North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and a 14-hectare lagoon in Palm Springs, California.

Crystal Lagoons is an international innovation company, founded by scientist Fernando Fischmann, which has developed a patent-protected technology that allows the construction and maintenance of unlimited-size clear water lagoons at very low costs.
