When the team of the Universidad del Desarrollo’s (UDD) Faculty of Economy and Business had to choose the first person that would be part of the Entrepreneurship Walk they inaugurated yesterday, they set as their goal finding someone successful in three areas: as an innovator, as an entrepreneur and as a businessman. That’s how they got to Fernando Fischmann, founder and CEO of Crystal Lagoons, the firm that popularized crystalline lagoons around the world and that today adds up 300 projects in 60 countries.

Emulating Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, the UDD Entrepreneurship Walk is located in front of that university’s graduate studies building and expects to keep giving recognition to other prominent entrepreneurs for their contribution and impact at the national level. “At UDD we breathe entrepreneurship since its beginnings in Concepción and with this initiative we wish to transmit that to our students “, said yesterday Joaquín Lavín, dean of the university’s Faculty of Economy and Business, who gave the award accompanied by the Chancellor, Federico Valdés.

Fischmann, who came in the company of two of his children, thanked the award stressing that it’s a great encouragement to all of Chile’s innovators and entrepreneurs. “Those of us who have taken up these challenges know it’s not easy “, he said.

The businessman also used the opportunity to look back on Crystal Lagoon’s history, an enterprise that he called a “daring dream”.

He recalled how he travelled the world looking for some system that would enable him to build a lagoon with crystalline waters and large size, but was told everywhere it was impossible. That was so until he decided to invent it himself.

Crystal Lagoons Corp. is an international innovation company, founded by scientist Fernando Fischmann, that has developed and patented technology that allows for the low-cost construction and maintenance of unlimited size bodies of water in crystal-clear condition.
