The world’s largest crystalline lagoon is located along the coastline of Chile. San Alfonso del Mar is a resort in the South American nation’s Central Coast region. Its massive lagoon covers nearly 20 acres and stretches for more than half a mile. For a little perspective, you could pour the water from several thousand standard 25-foot hotel swimming pools into San Alfonso and still not fill it up.

The pool is almost 10 feet deep in some sections. The water that fills it (250 thousand m3in total) is pumped in from the nearby Pacific Ocean. It is filtered and treated before reaching the pool. Hundreds of hotel rooms and rental apartments sit right next to this human-made swimmer’s paradise.

The San Alfonso crystalline lagoon, was developed using the concept and world patented technology created by the company Crystal Lagoons. It is an innovation that revolutionized the first and second housing real estate sector worldwide. In fact, San Alfonso del Mar is the iconic project that enabled the consolidation of the export model for the world’s largest crystalline lagoons that are today part of more than 300 international developments.

The lagoon it’s also the holder of the Guinness World Record for the biggest crystalline lagoon on Earth.
