“IL Monte Galala Crystal Aquathlon”: Egypt’s Largest Sporting Event at the World’s First Crystalline Lagoon on Top of a Mountain

On November 29th, the monumental crystalline lagoon of the IL Monte Galala project in Egypt, recognized as the first and only lagoon in the world located at the top of a mountain, will once again be the epicenter of the “IL Monte Galala Crystal Aquathlon 2024.” This major sporting event, the largest of its kind in the country, will bring together participants of all ages, starting from 8 years old, to compete in swimming and running races, individually and in teams. This event further solidifies the Crystal Lagoons’ development as a destination for unique and unforgettable experiences.

Developed with Crystal Lagoons® technology, this artificial lagoon is a versatile space that hosts world-class events year-round. It is also a key driver of tourism transformation for the Sokhna region, known as Egypt’s “natural jewel.” Surrounded by spectacular views of the Red Sea and an imposing mountainous landscape, it stands as an architectural and landscape icon.
