The Chilean science man and innovator, Fernando Fischmann, was appointed by the board of the German organization Fraunhofer*, as director of that entity, renowned as one of the most prestigious scientific entities in Europe. The purpose of this nomination is “to count with the biochemist graduate contribution, experience and support for high impact applied scientific innovation” Wolfgang Schuch, executive director of Fraunhofer states.

Fraunhofer-Gesselschaft has 67 institutes and research units in Germany, with about 23 employees in Europe, the Americas, Australia and Asia and is linked with 18 Nobel Prize winners through its several networks of scientific cooperation.

This is a renowned scientific-business cluster that focuses on myriad research issues. Among them, there is the support for digital music development with the creation of MP3, innovations in biochemist, energy, biotechnology, aquiculture, renewable resources, agriculture, information technologies, among others.

This important scientific designation given to the local biochemist graduate adds to other previous recognitions that made him the only Chilean who has obtained in this country the three following awards: innovation, entrepreneur, and businessman of the year.

Internationally, Fischmann was given the Innovation Award, handed out by Florida’s Governor, Rick Scott, for his career as innovator and international business ambassador, among myriad of other awards.

*This is one of the world’s most prestigious scientific entities. It has more than sixty high impact research institutes in applied sciencesand is linked with 18 Nobel Prize winners.
