The massive crystal clear lagoon at San Alfonso del Mar has been internationally highlighted again, this time by heading the top 10 list of the most amazing lagoons in history, ranking elaborated by the Australian online publication, Awol.

“They say size doesn’t matter, but you can decide that for yourself. The San Alfonso del Mar crystal clear lagoon in Algarrobo, Chile, is the world’s largest one. Clocking in at over a kilometre in length, it stretches for 20 acres and has a maximum depth of 3.5m. It holds about 250 million litres of filtered and treated seawater, pumped in “pacifically” for the purpose, from the ocean of the same name”, the Australian publication says.

Since San Alfonso de Mar was certified as the world’s greatest manmade lagoon in 2007, it became an international attraction that keeps raising the interest of myriad media worldwide. In fact, just six months after the lagoon was certified by the World Record Guinness, there were more than 2.000 TV channels, newspapers and magazines visiting the lagoon.

This was Crystal Lagoons’ first project and it was built 17 years ago in Chile and it still holds the Guinness World Record as the largest crystal clear lagoon in the world, at 20 acres in size. The project reportedly broke all real estate sales forecasts many times over.

In fact, San Alfonso del Mar is the iconic project that enabled the consolidation of the export model for the world’s largest crystalline lagoons that today are part of more than 300 international developments.
