The headlines highlight the world’s largest crystalline lagoon in the middle of the desert

22 December, 2023 / News

The world’s largest crystalline lagoon, developed with Crystal Lagoons® technology and situated in Citystars Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, continues to garner attention from the global press. On this occasion, HuffPost has emphasised the unique features of this astonishing amenity in the middle of the Sinai Desert.

Spanning more than 30-acre of turquoise water, this megaproject has held the second Guinness World Record for Crystal Lagoons since 2015, recognised as the largest crystalline body of water globally, breaking its own Guinness record from 2007 when the iconic San Alfonso del Mar lagoon was certified as the largest worldwide.

Citystars Sharm El Sheikh is an association between the Crystal Lagoons and the Sharbatly family, one of the oldest and most prominent in the Middle East and Africa. This project became possible through Crystal Lagoons® technology, adding real estate value to the development by repurposing water in previously undevelopable desert lands.

The monumental crystalline lagoon in Citystars Sharm El Sheikh, located in the Sinai, is supplied with saline water from desert wells for no other purpose than to create tropical seas amid an arid environment.

Alastair Sinclair, Regional Director of Crystal Lagoons, emphasises that “Crystal Lagoons® technology solves what was previously technically impossible: building turquoise water lagoons of unlimited size anywhere in the world, even in the heart of the desert. Today, we can bring the idyllic beach experience to unexpected places, earning global recognition”.
