The multinational Crystal Lagoons®, leader in water innovation and technology, has been highlighted by the website The South African. It posted an article with 10 of the best pictures of the first crystalline, man-made lagoon in Pretoria.
South Africa’s executive capital, located hours away from the coast, now has for the first time a beach along with a clear-water lagoon that’s all the rage amongst residents of The Blyde.
The ground-breaking development which officially opened on 8 September has already grabbed the attention of Gauteng locals eager to snap up property in The Blyde. The residential complex, which features a restaurant, gym, spa, concierge and multi-purpose sports fields, affords tenants access to the crystalline lagoon – the first of its kind in Southern Africa.
Pretoria Beach: Construction Of The Artificial Crystalline Lagoon
Some of the most impressive photographs of the lagoon were captured upon the development’s completion – before surrounding infrastructure and landscaping projects were finalised. The pictures show how the azure oasis stands out against the stark Highveld background.
The historical project, undertaken by Balwin Properties in association with Crystal Lagoons, was undertaken in 2016. The artificial lagoon totals 1.5 hectares in size – the equivalent of two rugby fields – and uses water-saving technology to minimise wastage.
Crystal Lagoon Uses Environmentally Friendly Technology
One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding Pretoria’s new ‘beach’ is that it wastes valuable water resources, at a time when South Africa is struggling to shake off a drought. In fact, it’s this exact juxtaposition which makes the development appear as an oasis amongst an otherwise dry and brown landscape.
While concerns regarding the projects water consumption and upkeep are understandable, specialised aquatic technology developed by scientist, businessman, and biochemist, Fernando Fischmann, means that the lagoon uses 30 times less water than an average sized golf course.
In most cases, rainwater is all that is needed to replenish the lagoon.
The manmade oasis can also be filled with fresh, brackish, or even salt water and uses 2% of the energy of standard pool filtration technologies, and 100 times fewer additives.
Other Crystal Lagoons Amenities In Africa
While The Blyde in Riverwalk Estate has the honour of hosting the first clear-water lagoon in Southern Africa – the technology is being touted to other nations on the continent, following its inaugural success.
Other lagoons already in Africa include the Sharm El Sheikh development in Egypt, which, in 2015, was awarded a Guinness World Record for the largest man-made lagoon in the world.
Crystal Lagoons is an international innovation company, founded by scientist Fernando Fischmann, which has developed a patent-protected technology that allows the construction and maintenance of unlimited-size clear water lagoons at very low costs.
