Crystal Lagoons Brings Idyllic Beach Life to the Largest Shopping Mall in the Colombian Caribbean

30 August, 2024 / News

Crystal Lagoons will develop a new Public Access Lagoons® project, also known as PAL® complexes, in Colombia. The project will be located at Kristal Malls, the largest shopping center in the Colombian Caribbean. It will revolutionize the commercial and entertainment experience in Cartagena de Indias, an emblematic tourist city that was not blessed with good beaches until the arrival of Crystal Lagoons.

Kristal Malls, in association with AED and Arquitectura & Concreto, will be the first Shopping Resort in the country, featuring a monumental 2.2-hectare crystalline lagoon as its centerpiece. This lagoon, suitable for swimming and water sports, will offer an unprecedented experience. It will combine idyllic beach life, shopping, and entertainment in a single location, setting a new standard for the industry in Cartagena de Indias and across the region.

This new PAL® lagoon with turquoise waters, accessible to all through ticketed entry, will complement a commercial offering that includes restaurants, terraces, a hotel, a cinema, health centers, and top-tier entertainment infrastructure designed to host events such as weddings, concerts, and other large-scale activities.

This will be truly revolutionary for shopping malls, reinventing the industry by adding entertainment options and boosting the flow of visitors. “Our entry into the Colombian retail sector is proof that crystalline lagoons are successful and can take the mall experience to a new generation of entertainment,” said Francisco Matte, regional director of Crystal Lagoons for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The introduction of PAL® projects to the Colombian retail sector has already been successfully preceded by other complexes in the country (Baia Kristal and Kristal Blue), where developers have valued the sustainable features of Crystal Lagoons® technology, which lowers water use and reduces the transport carbon footprint by bringing beach life to urban centers.

Kristal Malls forms part of one of largest agreements of Crystal Lagoons in Latin America with AED, a major Colombian real estate company, which includes a total of 11 projects for the country’s coffee-growing region, known as the Eje Cafetero, the Andean Region and the surrounding Bogota area.

Colombia has generally been a fast-growing market for Crystal Lagoons due to its climate and population. It has also signed four new PAL® projects with Grupo Proyecta for the Antioquia region, an Andean area far from the coast, where Medellín and Urabá are located.
