Johannesburg prepares to unveil its first crystalline lagoon

8 August, 2022 / News

Crystal Lagoons has been expanding rapidly in South Africa. It currently has 24 projects in different stages of development and is in advanced negotiations with investment funds and large local firms to develop 20 initiatives with the Public Access Lagoons™ model, also known as PAL™ developments in various cities in the country.

Within the portfolio, one of the most emblematic projects is the award-winning Munyaka, near Johannesburg in the Midrand region, developed by the multinational water-innovation company, with Balwin Properties, the country’s leading property developer. Since its launch, it has been an unprecedented success. In just four days, 550 apartments were sold, a record similar to that of The Blyde, another Balwin complex with Crystal Lagoons, located in Pretoria.

Now, this ultra-luxury residential complex is preparing to inaugurate its monumental crystalline lagoon of turquoise waters and white sands, which will become the largest in the country, covering an area of approximately seven rugby fields. The local press has defined this amenity as “Johannesburg’s first beach”.

President of the Republic, Cyril Ramaphosa, has praised the project for its urban contribution. “Munyaka will bring South Africa to life and boost its economy. This is a magical place. Looking at the lagoon and the outdoor spaces, I think this is the way to build great communities,” he said.
