Water resources innovation and optimization in the copper cathodes production processes marked the IFT Energy and Water 2014 event that took place in Antofagasta. In this opportunity, experts such as Javiera de la Cerda, Head of Research and Development at Crystal Lagoons, deeply analyzed water scarcity in northern Chile and the economic and environmental consequence this phenomenon generates.

Among the topics discussed by the specialists, Javiera de la Cerda ask round the audience to change the paradigm regarding water resources usage when presenting the “Crystalline lagoons in the industry: energy and water innovation” project.

The expert explained the technology developed by Crystal Lagoons that allows the complete elimination of biofouling and organic matter that accumulates in the pipes that transport the seawater used in the mining industry.

“With this industrial technology developed by Crystal Lagoons, installation and operation costs can be reduced”. This happens thanks to environmentally friendly seawater pre-treatment processes, Cerda pointed out.

The Crystal Lagoons industrial technology – patented in record time by The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), through the Green Fast Track program for Green Technologies that allow the fast processing of innovations of great ecological impact- was presented in the International Fair of Technologies, IFT ENERGY, the most important fair of the Latin American energy and water solutions industries.

The event gathered together the most important conglomerates of the energy sector worldwide in terms of generation, transmission, distribution, and unconventional renewable energies, apart from renowned companies that provide complementary services in this regard.

Crystal Lagoons Corporation is an international innovation company that has developed and patented technology that allows for the low-cost construction and maintenance of unlimited size bodies of water in crystal-clear condition. Patented in 160 countries, Crystal Lagoons’ technology applications range widely from its recreational business, which brings the dream of idyllic beach life to any corner of the world, to its industrial variations in closed-circuit cooling, water desalination and applications for the mining industry. The technology was pioneered by Fernando Fischmann, the founder and chairman of Crystal Lagoons Corporation. A trained biochemist, Fischmann patented the technology and founded Crystal Lagoons Corporation in 2007. In less than three years since its formation, Crystal Lagoons Corporation has seen exponential growth and is currently involved in over 300 projects in more than 60 countries, including Egypt, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Singapore, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Paraguay and United States.
