The largest crystal clear lagoon in the world is in Egypt

25 March, 2022 / News

With more than 12 hectares of turquoise water, Citystars Sharm El Sheikh, in Egypt, is the second Guinness record of Crystal Lagoons since 2015 for being largest crystal clear lagoon in the world, breaking its own Guinness record from 2007, when the iconic lagoon of San Alfonso del Mar was certified as the largest on the planet.

The project is a joint venture between Crystal Lagoons and the Sharbatly family, one of the most prominent groups in the field of commerce across the Middle East and Africa, and is located in a 750-hectare site land. The Crystal Lagoons® technology applied to these lagoons uses salt water from underground aquifers of the desert. Currently, there is not any other further use for this kind of water.

Citystars Sharm el Sheikh’s crystalline lagoon get its salt water supply from wells in the middle of the desert that are otherwise useless, allowing for a tropical crystalline lagoon in the desert.

One of the main characteristics of the African continent, where this project is located, are its numerous Mediterranean landlocked extensions while some of its coasts are cold and dangerous. This amenity gives these problems a solution, as these pure turquoise lagoons allow swimming and water sports to be practiced in a safe environment.

“This technology solves something that was not technically possible such as to build monumental lagoons in any part of the world, even in the middle of the desert” states Alstair Sinclair, Crystal Lagoons Regional Director.

Crystal Lagoons is an international innovation company, founded by scientist Fernando Fischmann, which has developed a patent-protected technology that allows the construction and maintenance of unlimited-size clear water lagoons at very low costs.
