Press Highlights Crystal Lagoons Revolution in Colombian Retail

The press continues to highlight Crystal Lagoons transformative impact on the Colombian retail industry, marking a before-and-after with its new Public Access Lagoons® projects, also known as PAL® developments. This project, Kristal Mall, is set to become the largest shopping center in the Colombian Caribbean, revolutionizing the shopping and entertainment experience in Cartagena de Indias, an iconic tourist city that previously lacked quality beaches until the arrival of Crystal Lagoons.

Kristal Mall will be the country’s first Shopping Resort, featuring a monumental 5.3-acre crystalline lagoon as its central attraction. This commercial development, powered by Crystal Lagoons in association with AED and Arquitectura & Concreto, will offer an idyllic beach life, shopping, and entertainment all in one location. The new PAL® lagoon, with its turquoise waters, will allow visitors to enjoy swimming, paddle surfing, kayaking, and windsurfing, providing a unique nautical experience.

With a total area of 296 hectares and 110,000 m² of leasable space, the shopping center will include high-end stores, restaurants, terraces, a cinema, an amusement park, a 150-room hotel, offices, apartments, health centers, and an event center designed for weddings, concerts, and large-scale performances.

“This new project is proof that crystalline lagoons are successful and can take the mall experience to a new generation of entertainment,” said Francisco Matte, regional director of Crystal Lagoons for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Kristal Mall forms part of one of the largest Crystal Lagoons agreements in Latin America with AED, a major Colombian real estate company. The agreement includes 11 projects for the country’s coffee-growing region, the Eje Cafetero, the Andean Region, and the surrounding Bogota area.

PAL® developments stand out for their versatility. These artificial lagoons, with their unparalleled scenic beauty and turquoise waters that light up magically at night, provide the perfect setting for concerts, fairs, exhibitions, and weddings. Their infrastructure, which includes amphitheaters, terraces, domes, and climate-controlled open spaces, allows events to be held year-round, regardless of the season.
