Iconic Crystal Lagoons project keeps enchanting the world

6 October, 2021 / News

The first and most emblematic Crystal Lagoons project, San Alfonso del Mar in Algarrobo, continues to fascinate the attention of world media, which continue to highlight it as the largest artificial lagoon in the world, thanks to its 8 hectares of crystalline waters, which run through the development real estate.

These characteristics gave it the World Guinness Record in 2007, until in 2015 another Crystal Lagoons amenity was inaugurated in Egypt, Citystars Sharm El Sheik, which with 12.5 hectares surpassed San Alfonso.

The publication highlights the sustainable technology used to maintain the crystalline lagoon in its optimal state. It uses an ultrasound filtration system that consumes only 2% of the energy of a conventional system, disinfection pulses allow the use of up to 100 times less chemicals than a swimming pool and an online telemetry system that monitors water quality 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The project

San Alfonso del Mar was originally conceived as a second home project, with 400 apartments. However, by incorporating Crystal Lagoons technology, the success was so great that it was decided to expand the real estate development reaching 1,400 apartments, and even doubling the original sales prices.

The crystalline lagoon that revolutionized the local landscape, not only by creating an attractive and safe place for swimming and other water sports, but also offering spectacular views and opportunities for recreational activities, walks and gastronomic development, among other facilities around the lagoon; generating a total transformation and revitalization of an entire community.

San Alfonso del Mar, the first project in the world to employ this innovative Crystal Lagoons® technology, quickly rose to prominence as the “most successful second home resort in the southern hemisphere”.
