Dubai to Build World's Largest Crystal Lagoon

11 December, 2014 / News

Not content with merely the world’s tallest skyscraper and the world’s tallest motel, Dubai is planning to create the world’s largest crystaline lagoon — 99 acres — by 2020, which will be more than three times as big as the current largest such lagoon, the 30-acre project in Egypt.

The developer, Crystal Lagoons, will include wide beaches and offer swimming and water sports in clear, filtered water. The bay will be part of an upscale residential community development, Mohammad Bin Rashid City, which is now under construction.

Crystal Lagoons CEO Kevin Morgan said, “Based on our track record in the Middle East, we have proven that our technology … (makes) beachfront real estate a reality anywhere in the world.”

The company is also involved in discussions for a number of tourism projects in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

Dubai, which is bidding for the Expo 2020 World’s Fair, also recently announced the 10MW Tower, a dazzling residential skyscraper that would be a renewable energy machine that would essentially act as a power plant.

The project was officially launched at the Cityscape Global real estate conference in Dubai. Once complete, the developers hope it will be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records.
