20 September, 2017 / News

Crystal Lagoons, multinational water-innovation company and developer of the world’s top amenity is in talks with real estate developers, hotel chains, local governments, among others, in an effort to increase the number of crystal-clear lagoons within the European continent. Crystal Lagoons already boasts over 20 projects – in different negotiation and development stages – in Spain, France, Germany, Portugal and Turkey.

Spain: A starting point in the European continent

Crystal Lagoons state-of-the-art and disruptive technology, that brings the idyllic lifestyle of the beach anywhere in the world –including deserts- has had tremendous impact on different world regions. Nowadays the company is setting final details for the opening of the very first crystal-clear lagoon within the continent, slated for Spain. Alcazaba Lagoon, located in Costa del Sol, Caseres, Málaga, one of the top destinations in Spain. The 1.4-hectare crystal-clear lagoon will be the main attraction of this second-home community, developed by Grupo Osim. The lagoon will let people practice water sports such as paddle surf, kite surf, wind surf, among many others.

The very first crystal-clear lagoon in the continent will be the starting point that will open the road for other projects in places such as Catalunya, Comunidad Valenciana, Andalucia, Madrid or Murcia, where Crystal Lagoons already has projects in different negotiation stages.

Crystal Lagoons wants to take advantage of the good rush in tourism in Spain, country that in 2016 received 75.3 million visitors, 9.9% higher than in 2015, breaking for the very first time the historic 75 million visit barrier, all according to official figures retrieved from Spain’s National Statistics Institute. (INE). Likewise, the IMF has forecasted 2.6% growth for the Spanish economy in 2017, “figures that forecast positive impact on real estate markets and that are good for business”, said Francisco Matte, Crystal Lagoons newly appointed Regional Director for Europe.

Matte said: “The current oversupply in the residential sector has put pressure on real estate developers, who must be even more competitive when selling property, considering the amenities they offer too. Crystal Lagoons adds awe factor by bringing the idyllic lifestyle of the beach anywhere in the world”.

“Crystal Lagoons concept has managed to break the real estate motto of “location, location, location” and it has become the world’s top amenity by setting idyllic beaches with crystal-clear water of the highest quality in places never imagined. Crystal Lagoons changes the landscape generating dreamlike scenarios of turquoise waters that people can enjoy all year round that raises the value of properties, sales prices, and density of projects previously deemed unviable. Crystal Lagoons makes impossible possible”, the executive states.

For Matte, “Europe will be one of the world regions with the highest number of crystal-clear lagoons, because it has potential for it. Crystal Lagoons does not want to lose a chance in a moment where investment in property and tourism infrastructure keeps growing. Our project portfolio is raising the interest of some of the biggest markets in the region. Presence across the continent shows the value added that crystal-clear lagoons represent for leisure destination across Europe. In the particular case of Spain, we are very excited about the opening of Alcazaba Lagoon, developed by Grupo Osim, since it represents the opening gate for growing expansion in other European countries”.

Sustainable technology

The inclusion of crystal-clear lagoons to real estate projects has shown rising sales figures at very low construction and maintenance costs, with very low water and energy consumption.

The sustainable aspects of these amenities make them even more attractive for the European market. An average lagoon can be filled with fresh, salt or brackish water, and it can use 30 times less water than an average golf course, and in many cases it would only need rainfall for refilling due to an anti-evaporation technology that reduces in half the amount of water lost due evaporation. The lagoons also use only 2% of the energy required by conventional filtration technologies and up to 100 times less chemicals.

Currently Crystal Lagoons boasts over 600 projects – in different negotiation and development stages – worldwide. The company has broken two World Guinness Records for the world’s largest manmade lagoons. The first one in San Afonso del Mar, Chile; and the second one in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The latter is the current record holder with a 12.2-hectare lagoon in the middle of the desert.

Public Acess Lagoons: A new era for swimming and water sports

Crystal Lagoons has also recently announced a new business model of infinite and world-reaching potential. They are Caribbean-like crystal-clear lagoon open to the public that will let everyone to enjoy the lifestyle of the beach anywhere in the world. This new business model could be replicated at any place, such as public parks, theme parks, shopping malls, stadiums, university campus, zoos, golf courses, to mention a few, under a “pay per use” scheme.

Crystal Lagoons is an international innovation company, founded by scientist Fernando Fischmann, which has developed a patent-protected technology that allows the construction and maintenance of unlimited-size crystal clear lagoons at very low costs.
