Crystal Lagoons amenities ranked among largest in the world

2 May, 2022 / News

Pool Magazine included several Crystal Lagoons around the world in the ranking of the 10 largest lagoons in the world. The selection highlights seven emblematic projects developed with sustainable technology, patented in 190 countries: Citystars Sharm El Sheikh, in Egypt; Diamante Cabo San Lucas, in Mexico; Epperson and Windsong Ranch, in the United States; Mahasamutr in Thailand, and San Alfonso del Sea and Las Brisas de Santo Domingo, in Chile.

It heads the Citystars Sharm El Sheikh ranking, in Egypt, a project that since 2015 has held the Guinness Record for being the largest crystalline lagoon in the world. This amenity with turquoise waters has 12.5 hectares, is located in the Sinai desert and surrounded by idyllic white sand beaches, offering a wide variety of alternatives for recreation in a safe and controlled environment such as swimming and practicing water sports, such as sailing in the kayak.

Sharm El Sheikh is the second Guinness World Record for Crystal Lagoons. The first was obtained by San Alfonso del Mar in 2007, with the lagoon of 8 hectares and 1 kilometer in length, marking a milestone for the multinational water innovation company. For this reason, it is the second project within the Top 10 of Pool Magazine.

MahaSamutr’s idyllic 7-hectare lagoon is the centerpiece of the resort-style complex. Like all the crystal clear water bodies of Crystal Lagoons, this amenity is surrounded by white sand beaches, which imitate virgin natural beaches. All homes in the development offer direct access to lagoon beach activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and sailing. Other amenities for residents include a spa and waterfront dining options.

The magazine also highlights the Diamante Cabo San Lucas project in Mexico. It is located in one of the most touristic areas, Los Cabos, in the state of Baja California, in a land of more than 3,500 hectares. The 4-hectare  crystal clear lagoon resembles a puzzle piece on the peninsula and became an international trend on applications such as Twitter and Facebook, after its exhibition.

The Epperson project, located in Tampa, developed by Crystal Lagoons in conjunction with its strategic partner Metro Development Group, has been an unprecedented commercial phenomenon since its inception and has positioned itself as the highest value-add in Tampa. The debut of this first crystalline lagoon in the United States made the real estate revolution a reality in this country, which in less than three years after arriving in that country, generated great demand. It offers 3 hectares of pure turquoise waters and endless year-round beach activities for the whole family, including an inflatable water obstacle course, food trucks and various water sports.

Epperson is part of the successful Public Access Lagoons™ business model that is now expanding across the US, but also internationally. The PAL™ projects – which can be accessed by paying a ticket – allow people to enjoy beach life just steps from their home. These large lagoons are surrounded by beaches and infrastructure such as retail, hotels and gastronomic services. In addition, they have areas for shows and streaming events, making them ideal for corporate activities, fairs, food halls, weddings, and even concerts in a paradisiacal setting.

Texas is the most important state for Crystal Lagoons in the United States, among which Windsong Ranch stands out. This project set a sales record due to the amenities it includes, such as the impressive 2-hectare body of turquoise waters, which have made it a widely awarded national project.

Las Brisas is part of the exclusive Santo Domingo community located on Chile’s coast. The resort community is anchored by its 5-acre salt water lagoon, which measures roughly the same size as 16 Olympic-sized swimming pools put together. Developed by Crystal Lagoons, the amenity overlooks the Pacific Ocean and mimics its brilliant blue waters. It offers beachfront swimming and water sports for residents, as swimming in the ocean is not permitted.
