The Innovator’s Dream

Fernando Fischmann’s journey began with a singular vision: to bring the turquoise waters of the Caribbean to the cold Chilean coast.
At San Alfonso del Mar, his real estate project in Algarrobo, Chile, the ocean’s cold, rough waters made swimming impossible. The solution he envisioned was a vast crystalline lagoon surrounded by white sand beaches and palm trees, something experts worldwide deemed impossible to build or maintain.

Everyone Said It Couldn’t Be Done

Spanning 20 acres, the San Alfonso del Mar lagoon would be like operating 6,000 pools, requiring massive amounts of filters, chemicals, and resources. Conventional pool systems weren’t designed for such a scale, and maintaining water of that size and clarity was considered technically and economically unfeasible. Fernando, however, refused to give up on his vision. Drawing from his background in biochemistry, he established a private research laboratorzy and devoted years to experimentation.

Before

San Alfonso del Mar lagoon, just filled

The early days at San Alfonso del Mar, when the lagoon turned murky and experts said keeping it crystalline was impossible.

After

Years later, perfected technology

After years of research and experimentation, Fernando Fischmann developed the breakthrough technology that keeps Crystal Lagoons® amenities pristine.

The Breakthrough That Changed Everything

After years of rigorous experimentation, he succeeded in developing and patenting a revolutionary technology that allowed building and maintaining massive crystalline lagoons with minimal environmental impact and at a fraction of the expected cost. Notably, it consumed just 2% of the energy and 1% of the chemicals required by traditional pool systems, and consumes up to 33x less water than a golf course and 40% less than a park the same size.

From Scientific Innovation to World Impact

The successful implementation of the first lagoon at San Alfonso del Mar transformed the project into the most successful second-home resort in the Southern Hemisphere. Sales soared from 400 to 1,400 units, prices doubled, and the project received global recognition, including a Guinness World Record as the largest swimming pool in the world.

From One Project to a Global Company

What began as a solution for a single development evolved into Crystal Lagoons, a multinational company with projects in over 60 countries. Today, its lagoons bring tropical beach life to cities, resorts, and communities worldwide.

A New Era of Beach Life

Once exclusive to private communities and resorts, its turquoise waters and white-sand beaches are now accessible to everyone through Public Access Lagoons® projects, vibrant urban destinations open via ticketed entry. The company’s latest innovation, Small Lagoons by Crystal Lagoons™, brings this experience to even smaller footprints, making them more attractive and affordable than traditional pools.

Beyond leisure, Crystal Lagoons is redefining the role of water in cities with technologies like Eco-Heated Lagoons by Crystal Lagoons™, which repurpose waste heat from cooling systems to create warm, thermal-beach waters year-round.

Its innovations also extend to sustainable HVAC applications that can cut energy use by up to 50%, water treatment for renewable energy storage systems, and eco-friendly desalination and seawater purification processes that produce high-quality reservoirs.
